What is a zero-knowledge password manager?
Zero-knowledge means the service never has access to your data. With SAFE, everything is encrypted in your browser with a key derived from your master password, which we never receive. Our servers only ever store unreadable ciphertext, so no one, not even us, can read your passwords or documents.
How does SAFE encrypt my data?
SAFE uses AES-256-GCM to encrypt your data and Argon2id to derive the encryption key from your master password. Encryption happens entirely on your device before anything is sent, and the key never leaves your browser.
Is SAFE free?
Yes. SAFE has a free plan with every core feature and 15 MB of encrypted file storage. SAFE Pro, at €3.99 per month, adds sharing a vault with up to 5 people, emergency access and unlimited storage. Cancel anytime. Cancelling never deletes your data.
What happens if I forget my master password?
When you create a vault, SAFE gives you a one-time recovery key. It is the only way to regain access if you forget your master password, so you should store it somewhere safe and offline. Because SAFE is zero-knowledge, we cannot reset your master password for you.
Can I use SAFE to autofill passwords in my browser?
Yes. SAFE offers a browser extension for Chrome and Edge that autofills your saved logins on websites. Your data is decrypted locally by the extension, exactly like on the website.
How is SAFE different from other password managers?
SAFE is built around your important papers as much as your passwords: passports, IDs, contracts and bank cards sit next to your logins, under the same zero-knowledge encryption. You can open documents right in the app, see which ones expire soon, and export everything whenever you want.
Can my family use SAFE?
Yes. With SAFE Pro you share a vault with up to 5 people, who can stay on the free plan. Each opens it with a password of their own, and the vault stays encrypted end to end. You can also choose emergency contacts: if one asks for access, you get an email and a waiting time to refuse. If you do nothing, they get in.
What if SAFE stops one day?
Your data stays yours. At any time, in Settings, Your data, you can export your passwords as CSV or JSON, your notes as text files and every file in a ZIP, in formats that open without SAFE. Keep a copy and you depend on nobody.
Has SAFE been audited?
Not yet. No outside firm has reviewed SAFE so far, and we would rather say so. The page "How SAFE protects your data" explains what is encrypted, what our servers can see, the limits, and how to report a security issue.
